Leading Literacy, Learning, and Innovation

Welcome to the School Library and Information Science (SLIS) program at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Our nationally recognized program prepares future-ready school librarian leaders who inspire literacy, support inquiry, integrate technology, and foster student success in today’s evolving learning environments. We prepare educators to lead meaningful learning experiences that empower students to explore, create, collaborate, and thrive.

Designed specifically for working educators, our fully online asynchronous program is 100% focused on school librarianship and provides various pathways to Texas school librarian certification and advanced graduate study. Through innovative coursework, creative learning experiences, and personalized faculty support, candidates develop expertise in literacy leadership, collection development, digital learning, information literacy, artificial intelligence, advocacy, and innovative instructional practices needed to serve inclusive diverse school communities and help students become informed and engaged learners. Grounded in collaboration, leadership, and lifelong learning, the program equips educators with the professional knowledge and practical skills needed to support student achievement and lead transformative library programs in today’s schools.

Whether you are seeking to expand your leadership opportunities, transition into school librarianship, or make a greater impact in the lives of students and teachers, the SLIS program offers a supportive and innovative learning community designed to help you succeed. With flexible online coursework, award-winning faculty, and a strong commitment to student-centered learning, we invite you to join a program where collaboration, creativity, and professional growth are valued and where future school librarian leaders are empowered to make a meaningful difference in their schools and communities.
