Biography
Dr. LaBryant Benjamin is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Counseling at the University
of Houston-Clear Lake. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor (LPC-S)
in the state of Texas, a National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board
for Certified Counselors, and an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) through the Center
for Credentialing & Education.
Dr. Benjamin brings more than 25 years of experience in education, with professional
experience spanning teaching, school counseling, and educational administration. He
holds Texas certifications in teaching, school counseling, and principalship and has
served in a variety of leadership roles across three school districts. His professional
experiences inform his commitment to preparing counselors who are knowledgeable, ethical,
culturally responsive, and equipped to address the diverse needs of children, adolescents,
adults, and families.
In addition to his work in higher education, Dr. Benjamin is the owner of a private
counseling practice, where he specializes in preventative strategies and solution-focused
approaches for men, individuals, couples, and adolescents. His professional interests
include mental health, prevention, counselor development, and the intersection of
counseling and educational settings.
Dr. Benjamin is actively engaged in professional counseling organizations at the local,
state, and national levels. He has served as Editor of the Houston Counseling Association
(HCA) Newsletter and as Associate Editor of Counseling Continuum: Conference Scholarship
Edition, Volume 1, Issue 1 (2026). He currently serves as Chair of the Awards and
Scholarship Committee and Co-Chair of the Graduate Student Counselor Committee for
the Houston Counseling Association, a chapter of the Texas Counseling Association.
Dr. Benjamin earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication, Radio and Television,
with a minor in Integrated Political and Social Sciences, and his Master of Arts degree
in Counseling from Prairie View A&M University. He earned his Doctor of Education
degree in Counselor Education from Texas Southern University.
